Textile installation “AND MEANWHILE, WE ARE STILL HERE” 2019

This work is an allegory of the transformation of traditional craft techniques into contemporary color-field art objects.

The installation constructs a visual movement from left to right: from an archaic, traditional textile carpet to abstract segments that lose their utilitarian function and gain autonomy as painterly structures.

Within this movement, generational continuity can be traced not as a literal quotation of tradition, but as its interruption, fragmentation, and reinterpretation.

The fragments that “emerge” from the textile surface no longer serve a practical purpose. They become a broken code, a disrupted system of signs that has lost its original meaning yet acquired a new, abstract one. Color ceases to function as ornament and becomes a field. Material is no longer craft, but gesture.

Thus, traditional technique shifts into the realm of contemporary art, where textile operates not as a decorative element, but as a conceptual form that investigates memory and inheritance.

Ця робота є алегорією трансформації традиційних ремісничих технік у сучасні артоб’єкти кольорового поля.

Інсталяція вибудовує візуальний рух зліва направо: від архаїчного, традиційного текстильного килима до абстрактних сегментів, що втрачають утилітарність і набувають автономії як живописні структури.

У цьому русі зчитується спадкоємність поколінь, але не як буквальне цитування традиції, а як її переривання, фрагментація та переосмислення.

Фрагменти, що «виходять» з текстильного полотна, більше не виконують практичної функції. Вони стають розірваним кодом, битою системою знаків, що втратила первинне значення, але набула нового, абстрактного. Колір перестає бути орнаментом і стає полем. Матеріал — більше не ремесло, а жест.

Таким чином, традиційна техніка переходить у площину сучасного мистецтва, де текстиль функціонує не як декоративний елемент, а як концептуальна форма, що досліджує пам’ять, спадковість.
